Socoa, or “little corner” in Basque, a commune in Saint Jean de Luz, is a true little gem, a must for your stay.

King Louis XIV built the fort at Socoa, today classified as an historical monument.
In fact, it protects access to Saint Jean de Luz Bay, and it also protects the small port of Ciboure from the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

You can take part in many water sports at this nautical centre. If you’re athletic, you can rent paddleboats, sailboats, catamarans and other boating activities.

For the less athletic, many activities are offered, such as tubing, jet-skiing, or even parasailing.

Beyond its nautical activities, nearby Socoa and Ciboure, neighbouring communes, are true gems of Basque architecture. You can walk along the sea, while discovering their homes, each more beautiful than the last.
If you are interested in history, you will also find guided tours of the Socoa fort, as well as the fishing port, the marina, the bay, the beaches, the walls and the cliffs.
